Fish Passage and Fishway ConstructionFISHWAY CONSTRUCTION RIX have now been awarded contracts to build 3 fishways for Statewater in western NSW. As the Principal Contractor on all 3 projects, RIX are responsible for all OHS, Environmental, Traffic & Quality Management. Gulpa Creek & Edward River fishways are reinforced concrete structures in environmentally sensitive areas close to the Murray River near the Victorian border. Gulpa Creek was completed at the end of 2010 and the project team were able to overcome the challenges of high water flows & difficult ground conditions for sheet piling to complete the project. Booligal Fishway is on the Lachlan River and is a permanent sheet pile wall with reinforced concrete base. Works commenced in Feb 2011. The works include: • Upgrade/maintenance of temporary access tracks • Construction of a temporary sheet pile and earth cofferdams • Excavation, dewatering and backfill • Formwork, steel fixing & concreting • Steel fabrication and installation. • Electrical & mechanical works • Restoration & landscaping |
