Underpinning

UNDERPINNING OF DEFECTIVE GEOLOGY

RIX have many years experience underpinning rocks, ledges and overhangs that are too big to remove or rockbolt.

 

 Summit Tank 200t of rock underpinned.  Brick piers were chosen for underpinning this ledge.

 
Underpinning is normally prescribed when a weak soil or rock band is weather from under a larger rock or ledge. The weaker band is carefully excavated and replaced with shotcrete.

The shotcrete can be supported with rock anchors or shear pins.
 
 
Three piers were excavated below the rock. Steel bars were embedded in the top and bottom faces of the piers.   The underpinning complete.
